About Shelley

My work lives at the intersection of movement, contemplation, creativity, and emotional intelligence. I create experiences that help people feel calm and connected. My path has woven through clinical, academic, community, and artistic settings, always guided by a devotion to presence, beauty, and the subtle intelligence of the body.

At the University of California San Francisco (UCSF), where I taught for twelve years, I offered yoga, qigong, and meditation, led workplace wellness events, and developed a yearlong campus‑wide meditation program funded by the Osher Center for Integrative Health. My work supported students, staff, faculty, and patients in cultivating steadiness, clarity, and a deeper sense of presence.

At Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where I served as a Well‑being Specialist, I curated hospital yoga programs, taught private sessions, co‑facilitated Mindfulness‑Based Stress Reduction, led cancer support groups, and contributed to integrative medicine research. These years deepened my ability to offer compassionate, individualized care to people navigating complex health journeys.

At Weill Cornell’s Psychiatric Hospital School, I taught dance and mindfulness to K–12 students, collaborating closely with psychiatrists to support emotional expression, physical wellbeing, and creative confidence. One of my greatest joys was choreographing the Stepping Up graduation ceremony each year, a celebration of resilience and community.

With the New York City Ballet, I served as a teaching artist integrating movement and creative expression into public school curricula. I guided students in choreographing their classroom lessons, supported them in developing artistic voice, and brought them to experience the company’s scintillating performances at Lincoln Center ~ moments that opened their imaginations and expanded their sense of possibility.

At Steffi Nossen Dance in Education at SUNY Purchase, I directed a pre‑professional high school dance company, nurturing the artistic growth of young dancers through professional choreography and performances in underserved communities. This work deepened my commitment to fostering meaningful connection and belonging through the arts.

A particularly meaningful chapter was a two‑year grant initiative in senior living, where I led movement classes to ease anxiety among individuals with Alzheimer’s disease experiencing sundowning. These sessions fostered comfort, artistic play, and a sense of shared humanity among residents, families, and caregivers.

I am the author of The Ecstasy of Practice, (Audible,  Apple Books, & Amazon) and Peaceful Journey A Yogi's Travel Kit (Barron's  Educational Series). My creative work continues to evolve through projects such as Joy with Flowers, a sensory, movement‑based journey into botanical wisdom and seasonal beauty.

Before my immersion in contemplative and integrative practices, I spent over a decade as a professional ballet dancer in New York City, performing with companies including Battery Dance, Balinese American Dance Theater, New American Ballet, and in musical theater productions such as Phantom of the Opera, On Your Toes, and South Pacific. My early training included scholarships to the University of Arizona, the University of London, and the Ballet Rambert Conservatory.

My lifelong study of the inner arts includes Pilates, Tai Chi Chuan, La Hok Ba Fa, Qigong, aromatherapy, guided imagery, and multiple yoga modalities. For two decades, I have been devoted to ongoing study and service at Ekam Meditation Center in India, a source of deep gratitude and continual growth.

My greatest joy is sharing the inner arts with others ~ creating experiences that open new ways of seeing and being.

From my heart, warmest welcome.
